Music from Taos Solar Music Fest 2008 - The weather was perfect for Solar Fest's 10th anniversary. The music at this festival always covers a lot of ground, and so will our releases, from The Coup, reggae artists Passafire and Taj Weekes, acoustic artists Sharon Gilchrist and Don Richmond, and the percussion of Concepto Tambor, among others.

New music from Savannah Music Festival - Quoting the New York Times: “The Savannah Music Festival has evolved into a marathon of Zydeco, Gershwin, Gospel, and Southern Rock that spills across the city." In its long history, the 17-day long SMF has built an archive of recordings documenting the living musical traditions of jazz, classical, blues, bluegrass, Gospel, American, and international roots music artists. We're honored to be tapped by Savannah to present the first releases from their precious archive. Volume One includes performances from the past four years, with tunes by the Jerry Douglas Band, and a mando mob including Sam Bush, David Grisman, Mike Marshall, and Tony Williamson. Jazz selections from this event include performances by John Jorgenson, Wycliffe Gordon, and Marcus Roberts, among many others. Volume Two will cover some ground between roots and world music, and will be available this spring.
New music from a new festival - YarmonyGrass is an intimate start-up fest sited on the beautiful Colorado River. In 2007, the party was hosted by newly-retired members of The String Cheese Incident - Kyle Hollingsworth, Bill Nershi, and Keith Moseley, joined by other jamgrass artists and progressive western bluegrass pickers. We have two volumes of highlights from the festival, including tunes from Strings for Industry, Honkytonk Homeslice, Cornmeal, and Head for the Hills. We have sampled from the late-night "Joint Set," but promised not to say who's playing - see if you can guess! Please check out the 2-volume package.
Old Town School of Folk Music Songbook: Just as Harry Smith's "Anthology of American Folk Music" was credited with sparking the folk revival of the 50s and 60s, this 4 volume collection from the famed Old Town School promises to be hugely influential to the next generations of acoustic musicians. You'll find a broad survey of traditional and contemporary folk music - work songs, protest songs, murder ballads, hymns, you name it. We have the whole shebang available in digital formats - convenient for study! - at great prices. Among the rarities: a young John Prine and a young Steve Goodman (both alumni) singing their most famous tunes.
We've added recommendations to every FestivaLink.net show page. Ever wonder what else someone who loves Bromberg bought? How about the choices of a fan of famed cowboy poet Waddie Mitchell? It's an interesting peek into the tastes of our listeners. We hope the recommendations - combined with the samples of every song - make browsing our site and making music choices easier and more fun.
We'll let you know when new shows and concert series go live. Just join our email list or set up a FestivaLink.net account. We'll keep you posted - tastefully and respectfully, of course. Do your friends share your great taste in music? Please share FestivaLink.net with them.
