FestivaLink.net presents Old Settler's Music Festival 2009

We sent a crew to Austin in April for the 22nd annual Old Settler's, an Americana festival with a distinctly Texas flavor. One day of torrential rain showed this fest's grit and flexibility; weather-hardy crowds were rewarded with picture-perfect Texas Hill Country spring weather for the rest of the weekend.

FestivaLink.net presents MerleFest 2009

We made our 4th trip to MerleFest for its 22nd anniversary. We were thrilled to bring back performances from the Watson main stage, the nearby Cabin (tweener) stage, and the Hillside Stage (for many, the favored stage at this sprawling fest). As always, our staff and the amazing engineers at Airshow are at work now to release great-sounding live downloads in the FestivaLink tradition.

Rebel Alliance Jam at YarmonyGrass

FestivaLink artists support the Conscious Alliance

Folks who attend Taos Solar Music Festival, All Good Festival, YarmonyGrass, Bonnaroo, or Rothbury are familiar with Conscious Alliance's food drive booth, where cans of food and tubes of toothpaste are exchanged for custom art posters. It sounds like a simple exchange, and the booth and poster display are certainly low-tech, but behind the scenes is a complex of hard-working volunteers, advisors, detailed logistics management, and resources all focused on getting food to communities most in need here in America, mainly to impoverished American Indian communities.

The core staff of four do more than just collect and deliver food; they teach, train, and build food bank capacity. This is the Alliance's ambitious mission:
• Distribute food and resources to communities most in need.
• Educate people about hunger, sustainability, and the issues facing    American Indian Communities.
• Create service-learning opportunities for youth on American Indian    Reservations.
• Facilitate the sustainable development of American Indian    communities.
• Mobilize resources for first response disaster relief.

The Alliance's efforts are supported through donations, sponsors, and poster sales. From time to time, musicians in their support network stage benefit performances, like the Rebel Alliance Jam captured at YarmonyGrass in 2008.

It’s the archetypal Alliance benefit jam: members of String Cheese Incident (Kyle Hollingsworth, Bill Nershi, Michael Kang, and Michael Travis) were joined by Allie Kral (Cornmeal), Scott Law (Strings For Industry), Steve Vidaic (Citizen Cope, Goodbye Champion), Tye North (Strings For Industry), Tim Carbone (Railroad Earth), Marty Ylitalo (New Monsoon), Jason Hann (EOTO), Gibb Droll, and Keller Williams gathered to play a string of cover tunes and salute the work of Conscious Alliance. We've combined music from that show with a raucous late night Joint Set, to create the first Conscious Alliance Benefit Download. Artists, the fest, and FestivaLink are donating their royalties from sales of the download.

To quote Betty from Boulder, "I'm glad the musicians are supporting Conscious Alliance, in times when poor folks are getting even poorer. Buy this download for them."

FestivaLink.net presents The Savannah Music Festival
From Savannah Music Festival – Masterful Pickers Around the World
Favorite FestivaLink artists reappear on Volume Two of the Savannah series – Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, John Jorgenson, and Tony Williamson among them. They’re matched by the brilliant Brazilian mandolin player Hamilton de Holanda and the Indian slide guitar player Debashish Bhattacharya and soulful Fado singer/guitarist Ana Moura in a great global collection. The two Savannah releases are painstakingly curated and post-produced by the fest, and we’re proud to offer them.
