Boulder Bob Dylan Tribute Show Benefit Download Now Available

Raising funds for The Oral Cancer Foundation is an annual tradition for a group of acoustic musicians in Boulder. Wrangled by producer Greg Schochet, 30 artists performed their choices of Dylan tunes – popular or obscure – for an appreciative audience on Bob’s birthday in May.

A download from that show, highlighting 14 of the songs and an entertaining story of life in the Rolling Thunder Revue, is now available.

Musical contributors include Bill and Jilian Nershi; a duo from the high-energy Blue Canyon Boys bluegrass band; emerging singer/songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov; and Janet Feder and Colin Bricker, the electronica duo Cowhause.

Please join us in supporting the cause by buying the download AND grabbing the widget for social pages, blogs, and websites. All artist and producer royalties go to The Foundation.

Martha Scanlan Little Bird of Heaven book cover
Martha Scanlan Tune Exclusively on FestivaLink

Martha Scanlan, a MerleFest fan favorite, is apparently a favorite of novelist Joyce Carol Oates. Ms Oates chose Martha’s song, “Little Bird of Heaven,” as the title of her new book, released this fall. Martha sang this song in her 2009 MerleFest Cabin stage set, so it will be familiar to many of our listeners. This version is a duet recorded in studio with producer and frequent collaborator Dirk Powell.

FestivaLink artists support the Conscious Alliance

The Conscious  Alliance’s food for poster exchange became a staple at festivals and shows with the generous support of String Cheese Incident; to date they have delivered over a million pounds of food to communities in need, and built a much-needed food storage facility at the Pine Ridge Reservation. The Alliance's ambitious mission is this:
• Distribute food and resources to communities most in need.
• Educate people about hunger, sustainability, and the issues facing   American Indian Communities.
• Create service-learning opportunities for youth on American Indian Reservations.
• Facilitate the sustainable development of American Indian  communities.
• Mobilize resources for first response disaster relief.

Musicians in the Alliance’s support network stage benefit performances, like the Rebel Alliance Jam captured at YarmonyGrass in 2008.

Members of SCI (Kyle Hollingsworth, Bill Nershi, Michael Kang, and Michael Travis) were joined by Allie Kral (Cornmeal), Scott Law (Strings For Industry), Steve Vidaic (Citizen Cope, Goodbye Champion), Tye North (Strings For Industry), Tim Carbone (Railroad Earth), Marty Ylitalo (New Monsoon), Jason Hann (EOTO), Gibb Droll, and Keller Williams to play a string of cover tunes and salute the work of Conscious Alliance. We've combined music from that show with a raucous late night Joint Set, to create the first Conscious Alliance Benefit Download. Artists, the fest, and FestivaLink are donating their royalties from sales of the download.

We sent a crew to Austin in April for the 22nd annual Old Settler's Music Festival, an Americana festival with a distinctly Texas flavor. Torrential rain contributed to some insurmountable technical problems, so we are especially happy to feature a few shows from this fest.

We made our 4th trip to MerleFest for its 22nd anniversary. We were thrilled to bring back performances from the Watson main stage, the nearby Cabin (tweener) stage, and the Hillside Stage (for many, the favored stage at this sprawling fest).
