Doing live music right means teaming top-flight musicians with an all-pro recording and post-production team to create a live music release that stands the test of repeated listening. WINTER WITH JAY UNGAR & MOLLY MASON ![]() Hosts of the Public Radio Exchange show, "Dancing on the Air," Jay and Molly invited friends and family to perform with them at the Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie, NY, eventually turning the performances into their "Pleasures of Winter" holiday special. The Pleasures of Winter are now available to FestivaLink listeners, including as FLAC, the CD-quality download format. The duo recorded 17 songs for the season - and not the trite selections we've heard so often in the past few weeks - with Ruth Ungar and Mike Merenda, David Bromberg, Tony Trischka, Kate Pierson of the B-52s, and others - in an entertaining collection we're pleased to include in our catalog. WOODSTOCK UNIVERSE MUSIC DEBUTS WITH THREE VOLUMES OF INTELLIGENT ROCK, JAM, AND ROOTS ![]() The Woodstock area, home to Jay and Molly, Levon Helm, Jim Weider, and other FestivaLink artists, is also home to the grassroots media empire, Woodstock Universe Music. The Universe evolved from WDST-FM, the hugely popular radio station, and its two Internet music streams. It includes Mountain Jam, a festival in its 6th year, and concerts presented at many area venues, including the legendary Bearsville Theater. In 2010, we'll be bringing you exclusive live music releases from in-studio performances by touring artists, Mountain Jam performances, and shows from the local clubs. To launch the effort, the folks at Woodstock Universe Music offered up live tracks from their 20th and 25th anniversary benefit releases. Recorded between 1998 and 2005, the three volumes are a who's who of intelligent rock and contemporary acoustic music. Proceeds from the sale of the downloads, including royalties donated by the artists, go to the Dyson Center for Cancer Care at the Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, New York. MERLEFEST 2009 RELEASES STILL COMING ![]() David Bromberg Quartet Hillside set now available Mr. Bromberg's 2006 MerleFest show is still collectible, and we now have a companion download for his fans to enjoy. David and his bandmates were all over the fest: he hosted the Walker Center Midnight Jam, he played solo, with the Quartet and with Angel Band at various stops around the fest. We’ve collected a handful of the best songs from the Hillside set, and added three bonus tracks from the Quartet’s mini-set on the Cabin Stage. We’re enjoying it, and hope you will, too. Ms Oates chose Martha’s song, “Little Bird of Heaven,” as the title of her new book, released this fall. Martha sang this song in her 2009 MerleFest Cabin stage set, so it will be familiar to many of our listeners. This version is a duet recorded in studio with producer and frequent collaborator Dirk Powell. ![]() BOULDER BOB DYLAN TRIBUTE SHOW BENEFIT DOWNLOAD NOW AVAILABLE Greg Schochet and 30 of his best friends staged their annual Bob Dylan marathon on Mr. D’s birthday, with all proceeds going to the Oral Cancer Foundation.
