Old Settler's Music Festival
April 16-19, 2009
Austin, TX

Was there something in the air in 1987?
Old Settler's Music Festival, Texas' premier roots/Americana festival, is 22 years old - the same age as MerleFest.

Held bout 10 miles south on Rt 35 from Austin, in a tree shaded picnic grove, Old Settler's just gets better and better. A formidable and experienced volunteer crew, some 200-strong, hosts the event that benefits Campfire Boys and Girls, and the Austin charity Health Alliance for Musicians.

Old Settler's Music Festival is nationally celebrated for its mix of roots, bluegrass, and Americana music, with a heavy dose of Texas talent.

The festival presents music on four stages, including a workshop stage. Thursday's action starts on the Campground stage at Camp Ben McCullough, and moves to the Salt Lick Pavilion picnic grove across the road for the weekend. From the Pavilion, we'll have recordings from both the Hill Country stage and the Bluebonnet stage. Sunday wraps up back at the Campground stage.

Among the Texans appearing at the fest are: Robert Earl Keen, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Sarah Jarosz, Dave Alvin, and Slim Richey. FestivaLink vets the Lee Boys, the Greencards, and Vince Herman are also part of the lineup.

It was our first time at Old Settler's, and we thank the fest's volunteer recording crew for making us part of the team.
