A Night Out With Friends

Memorable shows happen everywhere.

How lucky could we be? Some of our favorite artists selected some of their favorite performances to offer here.

As with all FestivaLink.net releases, we strive for the highest audio quality. Every artist has participated in the creation of the recordings, so you are getting what they consider the best of their best.

Black Mountain Boys
Ashkenaz Music and Dance Community Center, Berkeley, CA 3/18/13

Rarity: The Black Mountain Boys at the Ashkenaz 40th Anniversary

The event was the Berkeley venue’s 40th anniversary, and it marked the start, 50 years earlier, of Jerry Garcia’s first bluegrass band. The Black Mountain Boys appearing in 2013 featured founders Eric Thompson on mando and David Nelson on guitar. Taking up the banjo part was Eric Shubb, an old musical friend of Garcia’s. The band was rounded out by fiddlers Paul Shelasky and Suzy Thompson, and bluegrass bassist Paul Knight.

Who knows when the Black Mountain Boys will get together again? And in the company of a recorder? Grab this one for posterity.

Eliza Gilkyson with Nick Forster
Aspen Meadows Concerts, Nederland, CO 10/31/13

At 8200 feet, the town of Nederland was spared from much of the damage during the September 2013 flooding. Aspen Meadows Concerts, long a fixture of the Nederland folk scene, stepped in to raise funds for artists who had losses during the flood.

Eliza Gilkyson and Nick Forster chipped in with these songs from the benefit at the Wild Bear Ecology Center in Ned.

All proceeds from the sale of these tunes go to the Jamestown Area Artists and Musicians (JAM) for flood recovery.
