A fixture on the world's folk and bluegrass calendar, MerleFest presents a group of artists whose music defines the widest parameters of Americana music. MerleFest turns 21 in 2008.
Started as a memorial to Merle Watson, Doc Watson's son and musical partner, the festival lineup spans multiple generations, bringing together living musical treasures and their offspring's offspring.
The festival includes 13 performance and workshop areas on the verdant campus of Wilkes Community College. Recordings offered here are full-length sets from the Watson stage, the largest venue. And, from the rustic Cabin stage, we present an assortment of short, 'tweener' sets, bites of acoustic music magic captured between Watson stage performances.
We're working with the artists and the engineers now to select the best tunes and get them mixed and mastered for your listening pleasure. Please bear with us, while we get it just right. We'll have music from Doc, Jim Lauderdale, The Waybacks, The Waifs, The Wilders, Bearfoot, the Lovell Sisters, Jorma Kaukonen and more.
